Fire damage — what to expect and FAQs

When do I call Woodard?

As soon as your fire has been fully extinguished, call 314-227-3930, and we will dispatch a team to as quickly as possible.

What can I expect during your fire damage repair process?

Once you’ve filed a claim with your insurance company, Woodard will work with your insurance company to get the restoration process moving forward. The typical steps involved include:

  1. Boarding-up your home immediately will prevent additional damage by weather, animals or theft while providing peace of mind.
  2. Deodorizing your home will eliminate unhealthy smoke, soot, chemical particles and water damage. This can include mold remediation as needed.
  3. We will carefully pack-out your salvageable contents — from delicate crystal to large appliances — and deliver them to our ContentCare Center® (CCC) for cleaning. At this time, we can also take a disposal inventory of any non-salvageable contents, to help make the replacement process easier.
  4. During content cleaning, trained technicians will thoroughly clean and deodorize the salvageable contents of your home before moving them to our secure warehouse for storage until you are ready to move them back into your home. Your belongings — rugs, draperies, sheets, clothing, books, ornaments, artwork, electronics, documents, furniture, toys and more — are fully insured while in our care.
  5. Our professional document drying technology will help restore many critical documents, while keeping them private and confidential.
  6. Debris removal will include removal of large, damaged structures as well as water-damaged flooring, drywall or plaster.
  7. Repair and restoration can include everything from carpet cleaning to full construction services.
  8. When your home is fully ready, we will deliver your items from storage.

What is your ContentCare Center®?

Fully trained technicians will thoroughly clean your salvageable belongings in our state-of-the-art ContentCare Center®, which offers the following amenities:

  • Deodorizing ozone chambers
  • Large ultrasonic cleaning area
  • Electronics and upholstery treatment facilities
  • Industrial wash bays
  • Careful hand-cleaning processes

Should I go through insurance?

If the loss is covered under your insurance policy, then yes. However, if the cost for mitigation and repair is less than your deductible, it may be more cost-effective to skip the claim process and pay out of pocket.

How do I know if I’m covered?

Not all homeowners’ insurance policies cover the same types of losses, so it’s best to contact your insurance carrier.

Are any chemicals that Woodard uses hazardous?

All of the chemicals we use are safe for your household and the environment. We keep an updated library of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on all products we use and are happy to provide this information upon request.

When can someone come out?

Depending on the severity of your water damage, our Dispatch department can send a crew to your house as soon as possible. We will call you in advance to let you know we’re on the way.

What should I do before you get here?

Please try to have the source of the water resolved or shut off the water before we arrive. If you don’t know where your water shut off valve is, we will help you locate it. If possible, please move any valuable items out of the water to prevent more damage to them.

Is your equipment noisy?

Because of high power, our humidifiers, air movers and axial fans are loudly, but they must remain running to completely dry your area to prevent mold growth or rotting.

Is the equipment harmful to humans or pets?

No. The equipment is perfectly safe for humans and pets, but we do ask you not to touch the equipment or electrical wires. The equipment and electrical wires are strategically placed to maintain safety.
