Even the most routine repair job can become dangerous…

This was the case when an accident occurred during a routine roof maintenance project in Olivette, MO. This resulted in a 2-alarm fire.

The large church, which also houses a school, suffered severe damage. In addition to offices and classrooms, the gymnasium, cafeteria and mezzanine were affected, totaling 40,000 square feet of damage.

Due to our prior relationship, Woodard was called immediately to begin restoration services. Within one hour, we had emergency crews on-site working with church officials and insurance staff.

Restoration Process

Due to the size of this loss, Woodard’s main service lines were utilized—water, fire and reconstruction. Our project management team provided detailed communication and planning to determine the overall service timeline.

Our first priority was to secure the area by providing board-up, fencing, and tarping services. This was followed by a thorough damage assessment; and appropriate water and fire technicians were assigned. The initial cleanup lasted only 8 days due to our process efficiencies.

Woodard utilized our proprietary job management system; and consulted with the job’s architect, structural engineer, and the city inspector to discuss structural damage.

This entire building was contained to begin the smoke mitigation process, one component of which is odor and soot removal. Services entailed ceiling to floor cleaning which included carpeting and upholstered furniture. Salvageable contents were packed out and cleaned in our Content Care Center. Additionally, Woodard built scaffolding to assist in cleaning of large areas, including the mezzanine, pulpit areas, and sanctuary.

Results

By utilizing our experience and full-service restoration capacity, we were able to return this community staple to its former glory and get the parishioners and the students they serve back to business. Our quick response and 24/7 full-service large loss efforts made this possible.
