Why our system outperforms other pathogen prevention solutions Other commonly used disinfectants can cause harm without killing pathogens as effectively. Chlorine kills antimicrobials but is less effective against spore-forming organisms and has no residual protection. It can cause ocular irritation or burns to the gastrointestinal tract and can corrode metal. It has a very short shelf life and is often misused. Bleach reduces microbes, but not necessarily to levels considered safe by public health codes or regulations. It can effectively sanitize, but not disinfect.
