Ways to Support Local Businesses During Coronavirus

ways to support local businesses

We recognize that with the constantly changing COVID-19 situation, this is an unprecedented time for everyone. Many restaurants, bars, small boutiques, and entertainment venues are closed or have very limited operations. These changes are affecting those business owners along with their employees who can no longer work. It’s important to support local St. Louis businesses now more than ever!

Give the Gift of Business

Purchase a gift card from businesses that you would normally visit. A good majority of businesses have gift cards available for you to purchase. By purchasing a gift card now, this will help local business owners push through these unique times until they are able to get their business back up and fully operational to the public. Most businesses allow you to purchase gift certificates online that can be sent straight to your email. If that’s not an option, give them a call and see if you can purchase one over the phone. You can either keep the gift card/certificate for yourself and give it as a gift later!

Keep Your Subscription

A lot of gyms, daycares, dance studios, music classes, etc. are unable to offer you the services that they were once able to provide you. If you have these expenses already factored into your budget, we encourage you to keep paying for the gym membership, daycare, music classes, etc.! Many businesses and individuals rely on that support to keep their doors open and pay their bills. This will also allow the fitness instructors, teachers, and coaches to be paid while they are unable to work to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. This is a huge way to support a local business that could, ultimately, help them keep their doors open.

Buy Now, Pick Up Later

If you were planning on buying something, give the store a call to see if you can purchase now and get it later! Many restaurants are offering take out or delivery, while other retails locations are offering curbside services. Or, if you don’t want to take the risk at all, give the store a call (or check their website)! See if you can make the purchase now and ask them to hold the item until you feel more comfortable going to pick it up. Most businesses should work with you on how to purchase and get the items as this is a great way to support their local business.

Ask How You Can Help

Ask how you can help a local business that might be impacted by social distancing, group limits or lockdowns. Of course, a purchase of their product/services is probably ideal for most, but there are other options. They may just ask you to share a post on social media helping them get the word out that they offer gift cards or curbside pick up. The owners and employees may have other options or ideas that are more specific to their business for ways you can help.
