Mold removal — what to expect and FAQs

How do Woodard’s mold removal services work?

  1. When we receive your call we will schedule a Woodard specialist to inspect your home. If the specialist finds mold during the inspection, we will rely on the expertise of a third party Industrial Hygienist (IH) to conduct testing and write a remediation protocol.
  2. We will establish containment areas at the start of remediation. This typically involves generating negative air pressure to ensure that no spores escape the work area.
  3. Next, we utilize HEPA air scrubbers within the containment area to capture mold spores, while guarding against cross-contamination.
  4. Affected surfaces showing visible signs of mold will be removed
  5. Apply an anti-microbial. Once the affected surfaces are removed, detailed cleaning will be performed.
  6. The last step is post-remediation testing done by Woodard and a third party to ensure all mold has been removed
  7. A letter of inspection provided by the third party is provided to the property owner

What is mold?

Mold is a fungi that can be found both indoors and outdoors.

What are common types of mold found in homes?

Three types of mold — in different shapes, sizes and colors — frequently surface inside homes, including aspergillus, cladosporium, and stachybotrys chartarum (commonly known as black mold).

What causes mold?

Naturally outdoors everywhere, mold spores enter your home through windows and doors, or can be carried in on your clothing — even if you keep your home spotless. The key is preventing the spores from growing into mold. Mold spores feed on a wide variety of organic material, but especially on moisture (in humid areas).

What are symptoms caused by molds in the home?

Minor symptoms from mold include nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation or skin irritation. Allergy or asthma sufferers could experience more severe symptoms including difficult breathing. All of these symptoms can disrupt your quality of sleep, which can hinder your health in the long term.

Does my insurance cover mold cleaning services?

Not all homeowners’ insurance policies cover the same types of losses, so it’s best to contact your insurance carrier.
