How to remove stains from carpet

To help control the spread of the stain and to yield the best results, try to wipe up as much of the stain as possible. Grab a towel and lightly apply pressure to help absorb any excess moisture in the carpet. Wicking up as much as possible from the start will reduce the amount of liquid that will sink deep into your carpets or padding. Once you have most of the liquid absorbed, you can apply one of these at-home detergents to the stain.

At-Home Stain Removal Mixtures

The best way to remove stains from your carpet is to create an at-home detergent. Mix a solution of 1-quart warm water, 1 tsp. Biz brand detergent booster, 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent. Using mainly suds and a soft household scrub brush, shampoo the area gently. Do not rub too aggressively or you may cause texture change. Dab lightly.

Another mix you can use to remove stains from your carpet is 1-quart warm water, 1.6 oz. Ammonia, and 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent. Use the same technique as above.

Store-Bought Stain Removers

You may be thinking why do I need to make my own when I have a can from the store I can use? While sometimes store-bought stain removers can get the job done, they can do too good of a job. Often times, canned spot removes include bleach which while they do get the spot out, they also strip your carpeting of its color!
