Woodard mitigated Sewage Flood for 30+ Homes in Maplewood, MO
After several days of excessive rain, a Maplewood, MO neighborhood flooded on Friday, June 19, 2015 due to a failed floodgate in the River Des Peres.
The Problem: After several days of excessive rain, a Maplewood, MO neighborhood flooded on Friday, June 19, 2015 due to a failed floodgate in the River Des Peres, which sent dirty water and sewage into the basements and crawl spaces of 30+ homes. As soon as the 2+ feet of water receded, Woodard was called by the local sewer company to mitigate the homes.
The Solution: At around 4pm on June 19th, a Woodard Project Manager along with a few staff members met the Insurance Adjuster managing the massive loss on-site to develop a plan of action. The small team walked from door to door checking on residents, updating them on the plan to resolve the crisis in their homes, and educating them on their choice to work with Woodard for the entire mitigation. The sewer company took complete responsibility for the damage and called Woodard in to mitigate at no-cost to the homeowner. Woodard brought in a large loss trailer and set up a command center by 7am the next morning to start on the work. We called in all available staff – both office and production – to help in any way possible, and also called in reinforcements from an outside resource for an all-hands-on-deck approach. Woodard’s mitigation process on this job included:
- Extracting all standing sewer water
- Cleaning and sanitizing floors and salvageable structures
- Removing drywall and/or wood that would be unsafe to keep
- Placing specialized drying units
- Assessing belongings for salvageability or disposal
- Photographing and documenting disposed items for replacement through insurance
- Offering hotel rooms for some families
- Setting up temporary air conditioning for families
- Providing ongoing support for all homeowners in the area by answering any questions or concerns
Woodard’s crews spent just over a week working through this whole neighborhood until all homes in need of mitigation had been addressed.
Summary: The residents of this neighborhood were not at all happy to need us when we first showed up at their door, but they were absolutely thrilled by our quick response time and expert mitigation services. We took care to prioritize our list by families with children or elderly loved ones, and this really resonated with the entire close-knit neighborhood. We have a very strong relationship with this local sewer company and are thankful we were able to help these Maplewood residents quickly get back to their lives.
