Cleaning Coffee Maker With Vinegar

Just like any other well-used appliance in the kitchen, it is important that you clean your coffee maker.  Regular cleanings will not only keep your coffee tasting great but it will also extend the lifespan of the appliance.  Even if your coffee maker has a self-clean option, it is a good idea to manually clean as well.  Over time and use a filmy residue can develop in the coffee maker.  Cleaning this with soap and water on a regular basis can remove this build-up.  You may need to use a small brush to be sure you are able to get those hard-to-reach areas.

How to Clean a Cuisinart Coffee Maker

Coffee maker brands tend to be unique in their parts and the process that they use to make that cup of joe.  Pouring one-part white vinegar and two-parts water in your Cuisinart’s water reservoir will remove any calcification’s left behind by hard water.  If your model has a self-clean option, you can run this.  If not, you can run a standard brew cycle, allowing the vinegar and water solution to cycle through the coffee maker.  Depending on how hard you water is and the amount of mineral in it, this can be done as infrequently as once every six months.

Ninja Coffee Maker Cleaning

To clean a Ninja coffee maker, fill the reservoir to the max line with a solution of white vinegar and water.  Place the carafe under the brew basket.  Select the option full carafe size and press the clean button.  The appliance will take eight minutes to cycle through the cleaning process.  Once complete, you can empty the carafe and manually clean it with dish soap and water.

Cleaning a Keurig Coffee Maker

When cleaning a Keurig coffee maker, disassemble the machine removing any parts that can be removed.  These can be cleaned with warm water and dish soap.  Some Keurig models even have dishwasher safe parts than can be run through a cycle.  For hard-to-reach areas, dip a toothbrush in vinegar and gently scrub these areas.  This is particularly important around the area where the pod is inserted, which can collect coffee grounds.  Reassemble the appliance and fill the reservoir with two parts white vinegar and one part water.  With no filter in place, run the machine letting the water and vinegar cycle through.  Then run the appliance once more with only water.
