How Often Should You Have Your Carpets Cleaned?

Everyone knows you should have a checkup at the dentist every six months, have your car oil changed every 3 months or 3,000 miles, rotate your tires every 10,000 miles, test the batteries in your smoke alarm once a month – but how often should you have your carpets cleaned?

Believe it or not, this is just as important to consider! To keep your carpet in its best shape longer, you’ll want to have it cleaned before you notice signs of wear. Taking good care of your carpet will make it last longer and look better!

First, does your carpet have a warranty that you would like to keep valid? According to Carpet USA, most carpet warranties have strict rules about carpet care and if they are not followed, the warranty is void. Most warranties recommend the industry-preferred hot water extraction cleaning method at least every 6 months to 1 year, in order to maintain your warranty.

Next, does your home see a lot of traffic? From kids and pets to large family or friend gatherings, a busy household can really take a quick toll on your carpets. Foot traffic, drink/food spills, and pet stains really don’t take long to accumulate, and if your home is as lived in as it should be, you should consider having it professionally cleaned every 6 months if possible to really maintain its quality and appearance. It takes an entire pound of dirt and residue to be packed into your carpets before they’ll appear dirty to you – trust us when we say it’s important to properly maintain them!

For those of you who don’t have quite as much going on in your home on a regular basis, or who maintain a very clean, careful (perhaps shoeless) lifestyle, you can probably stretch your cleanings out to once a year or so before they’re really due for treatment.

Consider these factors in determining how often you should have your carpets professionally cleaned.
